Search Engine Optimization
What Is A Search Engine
Optimization?
First of all let me very briefly define what a search engine is.
A search engine is a complex set of software programs made up of algorithms that uses what’s called
spiders also known as robots and crawlers to index web pages in their databases.
These indexed or stored web pages are listed in the search results based upon the keywords people
are using.
One of the main reasons search engines exist is to serve the exact information (content) that web
surfers are looking for.
So, in a nutshell, search engines are in the business of providing their users with extremely
relevant information based upon the keywords they are using.
If you think about, what would be the point?
Search Engine Optimization according to SEO Expert and creator the extremely powerful SEO Elite software says, “On-page search engine optimization is a
fancy term to describe how you use keywords and other elements on your website pages to make them rank higher in
the search engines.”
He also stated, “Off-page search engine optimization is, to put it crudely, all about links. Links
from other websites to yours and links from pages within your site to other pages in your site. Search
engines use links as an electronic form of voting in which not only links are considered as votes, but the
value of the voter itself is important as well.”
So, in a nutshell, search engine optimization is about using and arranging the correct keywords your
targeted audience is using to find what they seek in the proper combination on each of your webpages and
getting other websites that target the same market that has similar content as yours to link to
you.
Tips To Better Optimize Your Website
To Help Boost Your Search Engine Rankings
Please understand Search Engine Optimization is a very complex field. There are many aspects and has
several moving parts, because things are constantly changing such as how the search engines rank your
website. These changes occur on a daily basis and keeping up with all of those changes can become time
consuming.
I can’t possibly go into depth with this topic because of its complexities, however, here are some
solid tips you can use as your foundational introduction to search engine optimization:
Tips to optimize your On-Page
factors:
- Create each webpage based upon one keyword that relates to the overall theme of your
site.
For example, if you site is about weight loss for women, then all the sub pages should relate to it.
One page that you could create could be a review on a specific weight loss product.
- Your title tag should include the keyword you are trying to optimize for on each specific
webpage.
Using the weight loss example again, your title tag should include the keywords weight loss
product.
- Use the main keyword you are trying to optimize for a particular page in each of the header
tags, and at least once in each paragraph.
Don’t burden yourself too much with on-page optimization, because link building is much more
important to the search engines.
Please don’t misinterpret what I said…
You should do on-page optimization, but once you’ve done it for each of your content pages, let it
be and put more effort into getting links to your website.

Off-Page optimization.
More Tips To Optimizing Your
Website:
- Link all of your internal webpages, because this will allow the search engine spiders to crawl
your entire site and as a result they will index those pages.
- Include a Google sitemap on your website because it will allow the Google search engine spiders
to locate and index each of your webpages by storing them into it’s huge database.
- Create a separate sales letter for each product you’re selling, because this will allow you to
optimize each of those product pages with the keywords based upon each of those products and the keywords
your targeted audience is using to find them (remember this is called on-page optimization?).
Another great benefit of creating a separate website for each product is you create more links that
point to your main or parent website, which helps to boost it’s link popularity, thus increasing the
potential of it becoming an authority website, and boosting it’s placement in the search engines.
Google Page
Rank – is a website measurement system used by Google to determine the relevance of your websites and
then assigns it a number ranging between 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the
highest.
Note Google doesn’t share what formulas they use to determine a site’s page rank.
Regardless that Google doesn’t share this information, it’s been proven that the main factors most
impact your position in the search engines are:
- How relevant and keyword focused your website content is (on-page optimization).
- The number of relevant external links you have pointing at your site from others that target the
same market as you.
Go to http://toolbar.google.com to download the Google Toolbar so you can check your website’s
Page Rank as well as your competitors.
- Submit your website to as many directories as possible. A directory is a collection of websites
that are manually created and edited.
Here’s short list of the most popular
directories:
Why Is Search Engine Marketing Optimization Important?
The reason there’s so much fierce competition in search engine optimization is it’s some of the very
best traffic you can get to your website.
Think about it…
Prospects find your website through the search engines will have less resistance to your sales
message because they found you and not the other way around.
Think about that very important distinction, because when you are chasing them with all of your
advertising and marketing efforts, they tend to have a natural barrier of resistance (“The Wall, if you
will”), because they know you are trying to sell them something.
You know that people don’t like to be sold to…
However, think about how good they feel about themselves when they’re able to find the exact
information they were searching for on their own without having someone blast sales messages in their
face.
Do you see the difference?
While they may still have a slight resistance to your sales message, it won’t be as
intense.
Another point is prospects that find your web site through search engines are called
“organic or natural” traffic.
Just keep in mind, these folks are in high-demand and can come at a premium price for the
inexperienced website owner!
While there are several search engines out there in cyberspace, you only need to concentrate on two,
http://www.Google.com andhttp://www.Yahoo.com, because they control over 80%
of the market.
Also, there are several types of search engines including Pay-Per-Click, Meta Search, and Niche-based, that I will
not be covering in this short tutorial.
Should You Manually Submit Your
Website To The Search Engines?
In my experience, the major search engines, such as, Google and Yahoo have always found my websites
via their spiders and indexed them all without having to manually submit them.
Of course, there’s always going to be some debate over this question.
Keep in mind, it may take anywhere from 2-4 weeks for the search engines to index your
website.
However, if you would like to have your website indexed into the search engines’ database within
24-hours is dependent upon the Page Rank you’re willing to pay for.
Here are some paid link services that
you can check out:
1.http://www.textlinkbrokers.com
2.http://www.text-link-ads.com
3.http://www.linkadage.com
NOTE: Some services can cost you up to $150. Here’s the trick, once your website
has been indexed, you can cancel the service if you want to or continue it’s use!
A Word Of Caution: You should avoid free submission services and the majority of
the software tools because they submit your website to all search engines using the same set of
rules.
Using the same set of rules for all search engines is a big mistake, for the obvious reason that
each one have a different set submission instructions.
If you do decide to go with those free services and software programs that claim to submit your
website to 1000s of search engines, just know in advance that your site submission will most likely not make
a difference.
If you want to use a software program that keeps up-to-date on the latest search engine
advancements, I’d recommend you check out SEO Elite created by Brad Callen, a search engine optimization
expert.
As a home-based business owner, I wouldn’t recommend you hire an SEO firm, unless you have a big
budget, because they are kind of pricey. Although, some of them are worth their weight in gold.
