"Top 12 Ways To Protect And Grow Your
Home-Based Business!"
If you are a home-based business owner that's worried about the future...about increasing
inflation...and the factors that make for such a nervous economy, I have 12 tips you should seriously
consider to help you protect and grow.
Regardless, if whether or not you run your home-based business part or full-time...
In today's business environment it's surprisingly easy to become a prime target for things, such as,
Frivolous Lawsuits, Intellectual Property Theft (esp. on the Internet), Tax Audits, and etc...
The world has changed. And it's going to change even more at ever-increasing rates. But most
business owners don't see it coming.
If you are concerned about planning and taking action to stabilize let alone grow your business into
a successful one in order to protect and preserve you and your family's lively hood, these 12 tips are for
you...
1. Implement Regular Training And
Innovation
According to Chet Holmes, the author of the Ultimate Sales Machine stated, "Deliberate and constant training radically improves employee's understanding
of the company objectives and helps to raise and set standards of performance. If you don't train, you can't
expect people to get to the next level. That's why most companies stay small or have to continually waste time
addressing the same issues and problems over and over again."
Now, you maybe thinking to yourself, I'm just a small home-based business owner and I don't have any
employees, but let me tell you why that doesn't matter...
And why it's really important if you are a 1 or 2 person business!
The reason you should implement regular training into your business (yes, even as a one-person army)
is because you only have a finite amount of time and you need to be as efficient as possible with
what little you have available.
You have to remember as a home-based business owner, you have a lot of competition out there, that
competition could be other home business owners or large companies that cater to the same target audience as
you.
You better believe your smart competitors are advancing every aspect of their businesses with
training...
This is what's called "Innovation!"
Innovation as Tony Robbins puts it, "To constantly improve every aspect of your business," in which
he trademarked the term C.A.N.I, that stands for Constant And Never Ending
Improvement.
And if you aren't constantly improving every task you perform in your business, you'll get eaten
alive by the sharks of the Internet...
Not only that, you'll continue to fall behind in every area of business.
Let me ask you a question.
How can you compete, let alone innovate if you are wasting time on administration-type work, or on
task you could automate with a software or service?
You can't, at least not very effectively!
Let me give you a quick example...
Let's say you have all of your User IDs and Passwords written on a dirty piece of paper and every
time you need to log into one of your many Online accounts, it takes you a few minutes to do so.
Why?
First of all, you have to find that piece of paper, then manually type in the
information.
Let's say that takes you anywhere from 3-5 minutes to complete this simple process.
If you logged into one account everyday for a week, that would be 35 minutes you spent on such a
simple task...
For one month, that would add up to 2 hours and 20 minutes, just to log into one account.
And over 24 hours for the year, just to log into one account.
To solve this time or any other time consuming task, just ask yourself:
"Is there a tool or service that will perform this task for me?"
For this example, you could use a secure software tool, such as, RoboForm, which will store and automatically log you into any
Internet based service.
I know that I've dragged this example out a bit, but I wanted to really illustrate how constantly
focusing on training yourself (staff) to learn better and efficient ways of running and growing business will
allow you become successful with less effort.
So, make a list of the operations you perform on a daily basis. Determine what service of tool
you could use to save you time, energy, and money.
2. Have Access To Experienced Business
Consultants
As a home business owner, you most likely already understand the importance of getting the advice of
an experienced business consultant...
Why is this important?
We all know that the decisions we make in life are based upon the information we have access
to.
Right?
Do you think Pierre Omidyar, founder of Ebay would've been able to
take his now household name company to it's current status without bringing in experienced business
consultants?
Most likely not...
Pierre himself said he knew nothing about business when he launched the first version of
Ebay.
Now ask yourself, if one of the riches men in the world used business consultants long before his
meteoric success, shouldn't you?
Business consultants will reduce your learning curve, possibly save you months or even years of
wasted effort, unnecessary stress, and not to mention potentially a small fortune.
They can answer questions based upon Human Resource Issues, Accounting Decisions, Tax Breaks,
Investment Rationale, Financial Options, and etc...
Those decisions and many more, if not handled properly could set you and your family up for things,
such as, lawsuits, audits, and all those other nasty little life altering scenarios.
I once ran into a gentleman who owned a "bar and grill."
This gentleman explained to me that his attorney charged him $800, just to consult him, and this didn't include any action he had to
take.
This means the owner had to pay his attorney $800, regardless of whether he could help him with his
issue or not.
He's not the only one that has told me similar stories about the outrageous legal fees associated
with running their small and home-based businesses.
It's no wonder why most home business owners never consider utilizing the services of
professional consultants and attorneys!

get access to some of the most reputable experienced business
consultants for as little as $2.50 a day.
So, don't think for a moment that as a home-based business owner you want need to have access to
business consultants...
Because it's not a matter of if, but when.
3. Have Access To Top Rated
Attorneys
Just as you need to have access to business consultants to help you make the most informed
decisions, you must use attorneys for that exact same reason...
You see, having access to both business consultants and attorneys are mutually beneficial, because a
bad business decision could become a legal issue.
That's why you need to have access to both simultaneously.
For example, What if you had an employee that worked in your home office, and they injured
themselves...
Would you know what to do?
Who would you call?
How much would it cost?
Is that cost within your budget?
What if the employee sues you?
What would you do?
You see, this simple scenario illustrated how exposed you are if you don't have access to top rated
attorneys.
This one scenario alone, could cause you to be sued and lose everything you and your family
owns.
Pretty scary, right?
I'm not here to scare you, I just want you to be aware of the dangers you face by not having
immediate legal access.
What about protecting your intellectual property?
If you're doing business on the Internet, you'll most likely be creating content to publish on your
website...
Content, such as articles, ebooks, reports, and etc...
How will you go about protecting your trademarks, physical products, and etc...
According to Michael A. Lechter, author of "Protecting Your #1 Asset", part of Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad's
Advisors Series, said, "Creating and maintaining rights in such
intellectual property, and avoiding infringement of the intellectual property rights of others, are becoming
increasingly important aspects of any business. This is particularly true with small and emerging businesses. To
survive in the marketplace you have to be able to deal with a spectrum of different types of
competition."
As a home-based business owner you must know ahead of time how to plan and deal with these potential
pitfalls.

get access to some of the most reputable experienced attorneys for
as little as $2.50 a day, so you can start moving in the direction of protecting you and
your family's assets.
4. Establish Your Home-Based Business As A Legal Entity
You maybe thinking here we go with the legal talk again...
Realize that business is all about legalities and making sure you are following all of the laws
including corporate, tax, state, city, and etc...
You'll find that if you follow the rules for running your home-based business, there are a ton of
benefits in the form of tax reductions (write-offs) that you could claim.
You just have to change your way of thinking, so you could reap those business benefits that are
provided by the government.
Let's get back on topic...
The reason you should use one of the available legal business entities is to protect your personal
assets, such as, your personal banking accounts, cars, homes, and etc...
From creditor attack.
Not to mention the many tax benefits you get to write-off.
What I'm really emphasizing in this tip is the protection of your personal belongings.
Some examples of legal business entities are Limited Liability Companies (LLCs), S-Corporations,
C-Corporations, and Limited Partnerships (LPs).
According to the book, How To Form Your Own Corporation, "In a sole proprietorship or partnership, the owners are personally liable for the
debts and liabilities of the business, and in many instances, creditors can go after their personal assets to
collect business debts. If a corporation is formed and operated properly, the owners can be protected from all
such liability."
I'm not an attorney, so I can't give you advice on which business entity would best fit your
company.
5. Practice Excellent Record
Keeping
I will not insult your intelligence here, you know that in order avoid IRS Tax Audits, you should
keep your business transactions separate from your personal.
If you mix the two, how will you determine what your money is being spent on?
Is it a pain in the rear every year during tax filing season?
Why you stress out trying to produce all of the receipts associated with running your home-based
business.
What if the IRS did serve you with a Tax Audit?
What would you do?
So, the bottom line is to simply keep your business and personal accounts, such as bank accounts,
tax records, receipts, and etc... separate.
6. Keep Up-To-Date In Your Industry And
Market Trends
With technology advancing at such a rapid rate, most products and services quickly become
obsolete.
What does this mean?
It means the emergence and downfall of whole industries..
Seemly overnight.
When new industries emerge, new products and services are created, which means new businesses are
launched...
On the flip side, when industries are on the downfall, those same products and services can become
obsolete.
And the same companies that created them will most likely go out-of-business.
I know that you don't want to become one of those companies, and the only way not to become a
statistic is to constantly know what the latest happenings in your market.
What new products, services, trends, fads, competitors are entering the marketplace, and
etc...
Are there any products and services out there that will help you to run and grow your business more
effectively?
How can I improve my products, services, business operations, and etc?
It's a lot of work, but this is what it takes to build and sustain a successful business in today's
ultra-competitive environment.
As, I've said before, even if you aren't advancing every aspect of your business through
innovation, your competitors are.
Are you now able to see how, keeping up-to-date in your industry and market place is
critical in sustaining your business?
One of the best places to stay current on marketing and business
building is Stephen Pierce's DTALFA site.
Mr. Pierce is a well respected optimization specialist, author, consultant, and businessman, and
I've purchased several of his great products over the years.
As a matter of fact, why don't you go ahead and grab "The World's Most Powerful Money
Making Manual For The Internet" created by Stephen himself by clicking here!
The bottom line here is to innovate or get left behind!
7. Put Your Prospects And Clients Needs
First
With the advent of the Internet, it seems like the mass majority of Online businesses have forgotten
why they are in business in the first place...
Which should be to serve and protect their prospects and clients!
Most businesses exist to earn a profit and there's nothing wrong that, but it shouldn't be at the
expense of jeopardizing the relationships they've built with their prospects and clients through shady
practices or with the only objective of getting wealthy.
You see, most people will not become loyal to your business until they first know that you are loyal
to them and this only happens through building a relationship with them over a period of time, by looking out
for their best interest, and continuous improvement of your products and services to better help them achieve
their end results.
This is the very reason why I created the homebusinessgrowthcenter.com website, because I'm looking out for your best
interest first, so I could save you time, energy, and money by investing only in the most useful tools that
will help you take your business to the next level, period!
From this day forward, write down all the ways you could serve your prospects and clients better,
through your products and/or services, and then begin implementing them into your business. Over time, the
strong bond you develop through relationship building will build loyalty and help to protect you from the
competition.
8. Implement Multiple Marketing Tactics
and Strategies
In today's competitive business landscape, you are no longer able to get by using 1 or 2 marketing
tactics.
Why?
What if that one or two ways you currently market your business becomes less or
ineffective?
What would that do to your bottom-line profits?
It'll most likely put you out of business.
Right?
Here's a better approach...
Let's say you were in the business of selling weight loss wellness products.
You know almost everyone that sells wellness products, are most likely using the same marketing
techniques and strategies...
They maybe using a website, business cards, meetings in their home, and etc...
My point is everyone is using the same old few ways to promote their wellness products, which may
make those marketing methods less effective because of the saturation.
What does this mean for you?
More competition, and less profits.
So, the best thing to do is to add several additional ways to market these wellness
products.
Look to see how other industries market their products and services, and see if you could adopt them
to your marketing mix.
If you were the seller of wellness products and apply that, then you'll have a big advantage on your
competition.
So, you must incorporate multiple ways of marketing your products and/or services in order to
protect them against changes in the marketplace and to stay ahead of your competition.
9. Always Pay Your Staff And
Vendors
This goes back to the tip of Put Your Prospects And Clients Needs First, and your staff and vendors are your
internal clients.
Most home-based businesses are failing, which means bills, payroll, vendors, staff, and etc... may
not be getting paid.
If that's the case, then you really need to sit down and develop a plan to see what your options
are, because that could get complicated.
But, if you are making the money in your home-based business, then you should pay your staff and
vendors first.
Why?
Because they are the ones that are most responsible for the success of your business and without
them, you'd have to do everything on your own...
As you know, "no man or woman is an island."
Just know, the more you take care of your staff and vendors, the more success you'll
experience.
Remember, they must know that you care and are loyal, before they commit to your
business.
If you treat them right and want to help them succeed, they'll bend over backwards to help you
convert your business vision into a reality.
10. Manage Your
Time
We have so much coming at us today, it's no wonder we are stressed out!
We have to balance our business, jobs, family, friends, personal care, health, finances, and the
list goes on...
The sad part about all of this is if we spend too much time trying to improve one area of our lives,
the others get neglected.
Talk about one big stressful balancing act!
The easiest way to manage your time is to assign each of the most important major areas of your
life, so the similar tasks can be grouped together. Then take one day out of the week and write down all the
things that you want and need to accomplish.
Next place each of those tasks underneath it's respective major area, and assign the date you'll
complete each.
For example, if one of my major areas were My Business, I'd write every
task I wanted to accomplish for the upcoming week that related, such as, write Google Ad, write articles,
Submit Videos to YouTube, and etc...
Then I'd assign the exact days that I'll accomplish those tasks.
This method can be applied to any area of your life that's most important for you to make continuous
progress on.
Sit down and write out all of the areas that are most important to you in your life, then every week
brainstorm tasks you need and want to accomplish, record them under their respective areas, schedule and get
them done.

11. Be Passionate About Your Business Or Change It
This is a very controversial topic, because some say you must have passion for whatever business you
start and some claim that you don't.
That really doesn't matter, because either you agree or you don't.
I'm not here to convince you.
However, I will say that it's easier to get the job when you love what it is that you do, as opposed
to forcing or lying to yourself.
This passion creates more momentum, promotes creativity, enjoyment, and resourcefulness.
It will give you the ammunition to blast through any obstacles that may stand in your
way.
Compare that with doing something you hate or don't enjoy as much.
Imagine if your passion was being a public speaker where you could mingle and build relationships
with people, but all of a sudden due to circumstances you had to take a job working in an underground
laboratory doing scientific research.
You know that you'd probably hate that profession, because you're an outgoing person who loves
public speaking and being around people.
Not working in total isolation.
You can make your own judgment call here as to whether or not you build your business based upon
your passions or upon something you're just trying to make money on.
I'm not here to judge you, but I know that if you pursue opportunities solely on their financial
rewards, you maybe in for a long, dull, boring, unfulfilled journey.
For me, I'd prefer to build my business based upon my passions, which are helping others, business
building, discovering new tools, technologies, and writing.
Those passions never get boring and yes they do require a lot of decipline and polishing, but they
don't feel like work because I'm excited to get in there and get under the hood, so to speak.
12. Be Honest
Once again, this should be a no-brainer for most of us, but for some reason when it comes to the
Internet, there are people that completely lose their common business
sense.
You see, doing business Online represents a little problem called
anonymity.
For the sake of this discussion, it means faceless!
Anyone could put up a website and claim to be someone that they're not.
To combat this you must establish trust by building a relationship with your prospects and
clients...
Does this sound familiar?
This relationship building process will naturally establish trust and respect for you and your
company.
This will only be established through honesty and putting your prospects/clients needs
first.
It's just that simple.
No rocket science here.
In closing, If you are a home-based business owner that's worried about your future, then I hope you
really expand upon each one these tips and then apply them to your own unique situation.
