What Is Newsletter Marketing?

Newsletter marketing is simply the process of providing your subscribers with high quality unique information that directly applies to their interest or situation.

That information has to be what your subscribers are actively searching for on the Internet and is unable to easily find it.

Newsletter Marketing is all about creating a win-win situation in which you provide extremely useful content that your subscribers can use to resolve an issue or realize or accomplish an opportunity.

You benefit by establishing yourself and your company as the most trusted authority in the eyes of your subscribers and ultimately in your industry.

Once your subscribers trust you and realize that you have their best interest in mind, you'll have established credibility...

And with that credibility, you'll be in the perfect position to ethically persuade them to purchase your products and/or services.

But, one of the keys is to do it all without the bombardment of advertisements...

Turning your newsletter into a sale letter, will be the beginning of the end, as that would be the downfall of your newsletter.

The biggest reason that Newsletter Marketing is so very important to building your home-based business is because it will allow you to build trusting relationships with your subscriber base.

It's no more complicated than that.

Let me ask you a question...

Whom would you trust to spend a night at your home?

A stranger that you've never met or a close friend that you've known for years and have gone through all the ups and downs in life, have shared things in confidence, have spent time with each others' family, and etc.

My guess is you would trust the friend you've known for years, because you've cultivated a loving and nurturing relationship with that person.

Newsletter Marketing is no different! You must develop a trusting, nurturing, loving, and authoritative relationship with your subscriber base.

So my point is you must not complicate the purpose of a Marketing Newsletter, because it's not rocket science.

However, it will take time and effort to tweak and adjust it, so that the content you deliver to your subscribers will be exactly what they want...

But, that's easily accomplished once you've built a subscriber base, by simply asking them what they want by using a simple survey or sending out a one question email on a monthly basis (you'll have to test to determine the best frequency for performing surveys, because you don't want to bombard your subscriber base with too much information, which can cause them to unsubscribe).

The second reason Newsletter Marketing is so very important to building your home-based business is it allows you to collect the email addresses of your prospects, which will allow you to build your subscriber base so you can begin building those trusting and nurturing relationships over the long term.

Now imagine, how many millions of people you’d be able to expose your home-based business, products and/or services, and yourself to worldwide!

There are some challenges to running your own newsletter, such as, consistently providing fresh, relevant, high-quality, focused content, management, and avoiding SPAM complaints.

One of the best ways to consistently produce a high quality newsletter is by making sure you are extremely passionate about the home-based business you started in the first place, because it's difficult to write compelling articles on topics you don't particularly have an interest in...

That lack of passion for the subject will become apparent in your Newsletters, and if you're not passionate, your subscribers will not stick around, because most of them experience this on their day jobs.

So, if you're passionate, you'll be excited to do the market research on your industry, which you'll be able to pass on to your subscriber base for them to benefit from.

This passion will take care of all the challenges that I listed above except avoiding SPAM complaints.

But not to worry, with the advancement of email technologies, there are several solutions that will help reduce your chances of being accused of SPAMMING your subscriber base.

The simple solution most email autoresponders provide to protect you against spam complaints is a feature called "double opt-in confirmation".

This simply means your subscriber will be immediately sent a confirmation link via email for them to click on to finalize the sign up.

If someone else entered their email address in a form to sign up, here's their chance to reject or avoid being added to that particular list, by deleting the confirmation email.

You see, if that person never clicks the "confirmation link" contained in the email, they will not be added to the list.

However, if they do click the "confirmation link" they are agreeing to be put on to your list to receive your mailings.

If they forget that they signed up and attempt to accuse you of spamming them, you could show proof that they or someone using there email signed up to receive your mailings.

There you go...

Problem solved!

Producing a successful newsletter will be worth its weight in gold because of the almost limitless list of benefits.

  • Keep your core newsletter content free of promotions and provide the useful content that you promised, because your subscribers didn't sign up to be sold a product and/or service. Remember, don't exploit your prospects by turning your newsletter into a sales letter, unless you want them to unsubscribe.

    Remember the purpose is to establish a long-term, trusting, and nurturing relationship with your subscribers. Do that and they'll fall in love with you and your business. Please don't minimize this simple fact of life, people want to know you care about them and their best interest, and if you violate it, you'll know.

  • Run your sales promotions in a separate mailing.

Keep your newsletter focused upon your niche or targeted market.

Why?

Because, the more focused your newsletter, the easier it'll be to write and research the relevant information your subscribers want to know more about, thus increasing the value of your content.

If you don't focus your newsletter on a very targeted niche market, this will dilute your message and confuse your prospects and cause them to unsubscribe because constantly changing, unrelated content will not be beneficial to helping them achieve their desired outcome.

  • Establish A Consistent Look And Feel For The Format Of Your Newsletter

For the same reason you focus on writing for your targeted niche market is the same reason you want the appearance of your newsletter to look the same when it arrives in your subscriber's email Inbox...

To establish trust, credibility, and familiarity.

If the appearance of your newsletter is different every time you send it out, your subscribers will have to become reacquainted with the look and feel of it.

This is not good as it will cause you to start all over with building rapport, credibility, trust, and familiarity, which can lead your prospects to unsubscribing from your newsletter.

Remember, people in general don't like too much change.
